There are many ways to braid the Swiss Zopf bread. The most usual one is the one made of two strings, you can find the instructions here.
Another option is a Zopf with four strings. It’s not as difficult as it sounds, and we show you here how to do it.
First, prepare your Zopf dough according to our Zopf bread recipe.
Once the dough has doubled in size, knock the air out and cut it into four equal parts. Roll them into four equally long strings.
Stick all four strings together at one end. Then braid the Zopf according to the following instructions, repeating steps 1 to 3 until the entire bread is braided. If pictures aren’t enough, check out this helpful youtube video.
According to the other Zopf recipe, prove the finished braid, paint with egg wash and bake.
